Information

The University of Colorado Women’s Soccer Club is one of the elite collegiate women soccer clubs in the nation. Since 1994, when the NIRSA National Championships began, Colorado ‘Gold’ has played in FIVE National Championship games, winning the National Title THREE times. In addition to their National titles, they have been finalists twice, been to the Final Four three times, and the Elite Eight seven times, making them the only team to get out of pool play all 16 years. They captured the Region V title 13 times, won the CMC tournament two times, the Ed Chartrand Memorial tournament four times, and the CU Invitational six times. The Colorado ‘Black’ team was established in 2000, and they too have enjoyed success at the national level. In the ‘Open’ division of the NCCS National Championships they have THREE National Open Championship appearances, winning ONE National Championship, and appearing in the semifinals four times, and the quarterfinals two times. In addition they too have a championship in the CMC Tournament and the CU Invitational. This year we are also very happy to continue on with the success of our third team, CU White. They finished their season above .500 and had some great wins against top opponents in and out of Region V.  We wish them the best of luck this season as they work to improve upon their very successful season of 2010, and improve to greater things in 2011.

The 2010 season began with great expectations for the Colorado ‘Gold’, ‘Black’, and White women. The ‘Gold’ team came to Phoenix, AZ and the Reach 11 Sports Complex playing to regain the National Title they won in 2003. This would have given them their fourth national championship in 16 years. The ‘Black’ team came to town with the same goal of winning the ‘Open’ NCCS title, and giving CU both titles this season. The women arrived in Phoenix, AZ, after a long travel day, to great warm weather, which was very welcome after leaving a very cold Boulder, CO. On Thursday, Colorado 'Gold' started their pool play games against Baylor University with a 0-0 tie. The women played well, but just couldn't get the result they had hoped for in an opening game. Game two was against the University of Florida, and with a win CU would advance out of pool as the #1 seed, and they did exactly that with a 4-2 victory over the Gators. Friday's match for the Round of 16 was against Ohio State University, in which the Buffs came out on top with a 2-0 win to advance to the National Quarterfinals. CU then was matched up against their Big 12 rivals Texas A&M. In a game that watched the Buffs score the game winning goal, only to have it called back by the referee, the game eventually had to go to penalty kicks and then this is where the Buffs season ended in a shoot out loss to the Aggies. The Colorado ‘Black’ team went 3-0 in pool play and a #1 seed by defeating Northern Arizona 1-0, Vermont University 3-1, and eventually the University of Miami 1-0, to advance to the Open Quarterfinals. The Buffs faced off against Northeastern University in the Quarterfinals, and advanced to the Semifinals with a 2-1 win. In the Semifinals the women faced the team that knocked them out of the tournament last year, Oregon University.  However, this year was different as CU Black came out on top 1-0, and eliminating the Ducks from the tournament. With the defending National Champions out in the Quarterfinals (James Madison), and the tough Oregon Ducks also out, the Buffs were just one game away from the Open Title.  Unfortunately the Buffs came up short with a late goal being scored by the University of Illinois to give the Fighting Illini the Open National Championship. CU White enjoyed a very successful season themselves even though they were not allowed to participate in the National Championships. They finished 2010 with their sixth consecutive winning season, and won some games against some of the top teams inside and out of Region V. CU White will continue to improve and become a very good team for years to come, and will also see many of its players being promoted within the club in future seasons as members of our Gold & Black teams.

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported our program this season! Thank you to the players who put in the time training and preparing for the National Tournament. In 2011, our club goal to win the Open and National Championship in the same season will be again something all the new and returning players will be working for. Each season we are right on the door to acheiving our goal, 2010 was no different, and one day our club believes we can get it. The motivation next season will be to bring the NCCS National Title back to CU, and to have the CU Black team break through in the open division. We plan on having a large tryout again for the 2011 season which the coaches hope will help our club come back next season even stronger than we were this year, as far as talent, numbers, and National Championship experience. There will be many spots for the taking, for interested players, as we will be bringing back the CU White team to the program (3rd team), which makes our hopes to win the 2011 Championship and Open division National Titles better than they have ever been. The future is very bright for CU Women Club Soccer.

Tryouts for the 2011 season begins on August 23, 2011 with a meeting in the CU Rec Center Conference Rooms 3 and 4 at 5:30pm. The rest of the tryout schedule will be listed here when available: Tryouts Schedule. Any and all levels of players are welcome as we need to fill 60-66 roster spots for three teams. Since we pick the team from scratch every season, and are losing many players to graduation and transfers, there will be many roster spots for the taking.

The season itself begins the first week of September 2011, and finishes up with the 2011 NCCS National Soccer Tournament (Phoenix, AZ) from Nov.17-19. The entire Fall 2011 schedule will be listed here when it is available: Fall 2011 Schedules . All teams will play roughly a 20 game schedule, traveling out of state at least twice during the season. Plans to travel to Southern California are in the works, along with the trip to Nationals upon our acceptance to the NCCS National Championships. Practice times for all three teams is as follows, and can be seen in more detail on our online calendar here: Club Calendar

Gold Team: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 4:30-630p. All at Franklin Field

Black Team: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 4:30p-6:30p. All at Franklin Field

White Team: Tuesday, and Thursday: 6:00-8:00p. All at Franklin Field. A third day will be added.

With the newly installed lighted fields, daylights savings time won't be an issue for practices, and if weather conditions are bad we also have access to the synthetic turf field, so training will always be available for everyone.
