| The University of Colorado Women’s Soccer Club is one of the elite collegiate women soccer clubs in the nation. Since 1994, when the NIRSA National Championships began, Colorado ‘Gold’ has played in FIVE National Championship games, winning the National Title THREE times. The third happening in 2003, which made Colorado ‘Gold’ the first ever club to win THREE National Championships. In addition to their National titles, they have been runner-up twice, been to the Final Four five times, and the Elite Eight four times, making them the only team to get out of pool play all 14 years. They captured the Region V title eleven times, won the CMC tournament two times, the Ed Chartrand Memorial tournament four times, and the CU Invitational four times. The Colorado ‘Black’ team was established in 2000, and they too have enjoyed success at the national level. In the ‘Open’ division of the NCCS National Championships they have TWO National Open Championship appearances, winning ONE National Championship, and appearing in the semifinals four times, and the quarterfinals twice, also never failing to get out of pool play. In addition they too have a championship in the CMC Tournament and the CU Invitational. This year we are also very happy to continue on with the success of our third team, CU White. They finished their season above .500 and had some great wins against top opponents in Region V. We wish them the best of luck this season as they work to improve upon their very successful season of 2007, and improve to greater things in 2008. The 2007 season began with great expectations for the Colorado ‘Gold’, ‘Black’, and White women. The ‘Gold’ team came to Pensacola, FL and the University of West Florida playing to regain the National Title they won in 2003. This would have given them their fourth national championship in 14 years. The ‘Black’ team came to town with the same goal of winning the ‘Open’ NCCS title, and giving CU both titles this season. The women arrived in Pensacola, FL, after a long travel day, to great warm weather which was very welcome after leaving a very cold Boulder, CO. On Thursday, Colorado 'Gold' started their pool play games against the University of Illinois with a 1-1 tie after a last minute hard fought CU goal went in late to tie the game, game two was a rematch of the 2006 National Championship final, and unfortunately CU came up short again 0-1 to San Diego State. This loss meant CU Gold needed a must win on Friday against James Madison to advance to the quarterfinals, and they got just that with a 3-0 solid win against JMU. CU then matched up with Penn State in the quarterfinals Friday night, and unfortunately had their tournament end there with a 0-1 defeat to the Nittany Lions. The Colorado ‘Black’ team went 2-0-1 in pool play by defeating Texas State 3-0, University of Penn 2-1, and after already knowing they had qualified to the quarterfinals gave up a 1-1 tie to Middle Tennessee to advance to the quarterfinals as a top seed. The quarterfinal match for the CU Black women was a very close game against the University of Arizona, in which the difference in the game was a lone penalty kick call late in the game to give Arizona the win to advance to the semis. CU White enjoyed a very successful season themselves even though they were not allowed to participate in the National Championships. They finished 2007 with back to back seasons with winning records, and won some games against some of the top teams in Region V. CU White will continue to improve and become a very good team for years to come. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported our program this season! Thank you to the players who put in the time training and preparing for the National Tournament. In 2008, our club goal to win the Open and National Championship in the same season will be again something all the new and returning players will be working for. Each season we are right on the door to acheiving our goal, 2007 was no different, and one day our club believes we can get it. The motivation next season will be to bring the NCCS National Title back to CU, and to have the CU Black team break through in the open division. We plan on having a large tryout again for the 2008 season which the coaches hope will help our club come back next season even stronger than we were this year, as far as talent, numbers, and National Championship experience. There will be many spots for the taking, for interested players, as we will be bringing back the CU White team to the program (3rd team), which makes our hopes to win the 2008 Championship and Open division National Titles better than they have ever been. The future is very bright for CU Women Club Soccer. Gold Team: Monday's or Tuesday's (alternating weekly): 4:30p-6:30p, Wednesday, and Friday: 4:30-630p. All at Franklin Field Black Team: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 4:30p-6:30p. All at Franklin Field White Team: Tuesday, and Thursday: 6:00-8:00p. All at Franklin Field. A third day will be added. With the newly installed lighted fields, daylights savings time won't be an issue for practices, and if weather conditions are bad we also have access to the synthetic turf field, so training will always be available for everyone.
Playing club soccer for the University of Colorado is an experience that nobody can forget if they are a part of it. You will develop lifelong friends, and have a season full of ups and downs, fun, and excitement....and hopefully the thrill of winning another National Championship! |
